Consularia Italica

Consularia Italica is the name given to a collection of consular fasti and related annalistic texts published in 1892 by the German historian Theodor Mommsen as part of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica series. It brings together seven separate late antique and early medieval sources, including the Anonymi Valesiani and several versions of the Fasti Vindobonenses, along with ecclesiastical texts, which record consular office holders and chronological data for Italy across the transition from the Roman world to the early Middle Ages. By gathering these scattered fragments into a single edition, Mommsen made these primary sources far more accessible to later historians studying the end of Roman rule in Italy and the Ostrogothic kingdom that followed it. The edition remains the standard reference form of these texts and has since been made available in Italian and Dutch translation alongside the original Latin.
