Chronography of 354

The Chronography of 354 is a compiled illustrated manuscript of chronological and calendrical texts produced in Rome in 354 AD for a wealthy Christian named Valentinus by the calligrapher and illustrator Furius Dionysius Filocalus. The original has not survived, though several later copies have, and it is considered the earliest known codex to have carried full page illustrations throughout. Among its parts is the so called Liberian Catalogue, a list of the bishops of Rome that forms one section of the wider compilation, and the work as a whole also contains the earliest known reference to the celebration of Christmas as an annual feast on December 25.
