This dimension groups polities by the era in which they existed. Wikipedia defines a polity as "a group of people with a collective identity, who are organized by some form of political, institutionalized, social relations and have a capacity to mobilize resources," a definition that has taken very different shapes across different eras. Browsing by era lets a visitor compare polities that existed in the same period.
