Siberian Khanate

Empires and Imperial States

The Siberian Khanate, also known as the Khanate of Sibir, was a Tatar state in western Siberia founded at the end of the fifteenth century following the breakup of the Golden Horde. Rulership over the khanate was repeatedly contested between the Shaybanid and Taibugid dynasties, both of which claimed direct patrilineal descent from Genghis Khan through his eldest son Jochi and Jochi's fifth son, Shayban. The khanate's territory had once formed part of the Mongol Empire and later came under the White Horde and the Golden Horde before emerging as an independent state.
