The Irish Rebellion of 1641 began on 23 October 1641 when Irish gentry and military officers rose up seeking to end English domination of Ireland, restore lands confiscated under the plantations of Ireland, and secure greater Irish control over the country's government. The rebellion, which lasted until around May 1642, quickly descended into sectarian violence and set the stage for the wider Irish Confederate Wars of the following decade.
