The Portuguese Restoration War was fought between Portugal and Spain from 1641 until the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668, which formally ended the Iberian Union. The war followed the 1640 acclamation of John IV as King of Portugal, and its Portuguese victory brought a definitive end to Habsburg claims to the Portuguese throne after more than a quarter century of fighting.
