The Kingdom of Greater Armenia was an Armenian state in the Ancient Near East that existed from 331 BC to 428 AD, governed in succession by three royal dynasties, the Orontid from 331 to 200 BC, the Artaxiad from 189 BC to 12 AD, and the Arsacid from 52 to 428 AD. It emerged from the Satrapy of Armenia under Persian rule, transitioning into an independent kingdom around 321 BC following Alexander the Great's conquest of Persia and developing into a significant Hellenistic power. Under Tigranes the Great, from 83 to 69 BC, the kingdom reached its greatest territorial extent, briefly functioning as a major empire before Roman conquest reduced it to a client state caught between Roman and Parthian power, ending with its final dissolution in 428 AD.
