Kingdom of Cayor, also known as Cayor or Kajoor, was a Wolof state in what is now northern and central Senegal, and from 1549 until its final absorption by France in 1886 it was the largest and most powerful of the kingdoms that emerged from the breakup of the Jolof Empire. It bordered Waalo to the north, the reduced Jolof Kingdom to the east, and Baol and the Kingdom of Sine to the south. Cayor's rise came directly out of the Battle of Danki, the 1549 conflict in which Cayor's forces defeated Jolof and set off the wider fragmentation of unified Wolof rule into separate successor kingdoms.
