The Locarno Treaties, known collectively as the Locarno Pact, were seven agreements negotiated in late 1925 among Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Italy, Poland and Czechoslovakia in the aftermath of the First World War. In the main treaty, the five western European signatories pledged to guarantee the inviolability of the borders between Germany and France and between Germany and Belgium as defined by the Treaty of Versailles, and to observe the demilitarized status of the German Rhineland, resolving disputes peacefully under the League of Nations. In the accompanying arbitration treaties with Poland and Czechoslovakia, Germany agreed to settle disputes peacefully but received no guarantee of its eastern border, leaving open the possibility that Germany would later seek to revise the territorial terms of the Versailles settlement in the east.
