Middle Eastern and North African Republics

Modern sovereign republics of the Middle East and North Africa, spanning Turkey, Iran, Israel, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and the State of Palestine in West Asia, the Caucasus republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Mediterranean island republic of Cyprus, and the North African republics of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania and Egypt. A country is placed here by its own recorded description naming West Asia, the Middle East or North Africa as its region, distinguishing this group from the separate African Republics group even where, as with Egypt, a country's territory also touches the African continent generally.
