Agreement Regarding Compensation for the Kubo (Kabaw) Valley (1834)

The Agreement Regarding Compensation for the Kubo (Kabaw) Valley was signed on January 25, 1834, at Langthabal in Manipur, between British India, represented by Major F. J. Grant and Captain Robert Boileau Pemberton, and the Kingdom of Manipur. It compensated the Rajah of Manipur for the loss of the Kabaw Valley, which Britain ceded to the Kingdom of Ava, Burma, providing for a monthly payment of 500 Sicca Rupees to the Rajah beginning January 9, 1834, the date the valley formally passed to Burmese control. The agreement specified that the payments would stop if the valley were ever returned to Manipur.
