The Tang Golden Age

The Post-Classical and Medieval World

The Tang Golden Age was the height of Tang power and prosperity during Emperor Xuanzong's 44-year reign, characterized as an era of economic prosperity and cosmopolitan court culture that produced most of the Tang's surviving classical poetry. It ended abruptly with the outbreak of the An Lushan rebellion in 755, which devastated the empire and began its long decline.
