The North-West Rebellion was an armed uprising of Metis under Louis Riel, joined by an associated rising of Cree and Assiniboine peoples, fought mostly in the District of Saskatchewan against the Canadian government. It lasted from late March to early June 1885 and ended in a Canadian government victory, with the collapse of Riel's provisional government and his subsequent trial and execution.
