The Kronstadt rebellion was an uprising of Soviet sailors, naval infantry and civilians against the Bolshevik government, centered on the Russian naval port city of Kronstadt on Kotlin Island. The revolt took place from 1 to 18 March 1921 and demanded political reforms including free elections and an end to Bolshevik one-party rule. It was crushed by the Red Army, becoming a notable instance of internal opposition to Soviet rule so soon after the Russian Civil War.
