The Rebellions of 1837-1838 were two armed uprisings in Lower Canada and Upper Canada, driven by widespread frustration with the lack of political reform under British colonial rule. The rebellions ran from December 1837 into December 1838 and were suppressed by colonial authorities, but the unrest they caused led to an official inquiry and ultimately to the granting of responsible government in the Canadas.
