The First Serbian Uprising was an uprising of Serbs, beginning in the town of Orasac, initially against the Dahije who had usurped power in the Sanjak of Smederevo and subsequently against Ottoman rule more broadly. It lasted from 14 February 1804 to 7 October 1813 and, though eventually suppressed, established a period of Serbian self-government that paved the way for full autonomy following the Second Serbian Uprising.
