Home›Monarchs and Rulers›Middle Eastern and Islamic World RulersGroupMiddle Eastern and Islamic World RulersRulers of the ancient and Islamic era Middle East and Persia, spanning Mesopotamian kings such as Hammurabi, Sargon of Akkad and Nebuchadnezzar II, the Achaemenid, Parthian and Sassanid Persian empires from Cyrus the Great and Darius the Great onward, and the Islamic caliphates, sultanates and empires that followed: the Abbasid and Umayyad caliphs, the Ottoman sultans from Osman I to Mehmed VI, and the Safavid and Afsharid shahs of Persia such as Shah Abbas I and Nader Shah. The group covers this one broad region and its successive civilizations across roughly four thousand years rather than one narrower period, distinguishing it from the separate Byzantine Emperors group to its northwest and from the South and Southeast Asian Rulers group, which holds the Mughal and Delhi Sultanate rulers of the Indian subcontinent even though those dynasties are also Islamic in religion, because their own realm and history belong to South Asia rather than the Middle East. The report that proposed this group level named it Ottoman and Islamic World Rulers; it is renamed here to Middle Eastern and Islamic World Rulers because the live membership includes many pre-Islamic Mesopotamian and Persian rulers that name would not cover.FactsBrowse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonStart YearWell-attested2300 BCE 1Browse ByAll Middle Eastern and Islamic World RulersMiddle Eastern and Islamic World Rulers55 entriesMiddle Eastern and Islamic World RulersFilter Results55 entriesRoleAllFifth caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate, reigned 786 to 809 (1)First ruler of the Akkadian Empire (1)Founder and first ruler of the Ottoman beylik (emirate) (1)Founder of the Afsharid dynasty and Shah of Iran (1)King of Babylon and the Neo-Babylonian Empire, 556 to 539 BC (1)King of Kings of the Achaemenid Empire (1)King of the Neo-Assyrian Empire (1)Legendary king of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk (1)Queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria (1)Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1)Uqaylid emir of Haditha and Anah (1)EraAllClassical Antiquity (8)The Ancient Near East and Bronze Age World (3)The Early Modern Period (25)The Iron Age (1)The Islamic Golden Age (1)The Late Modern Period (8)The Post-Classical and Medieval Period (8)The Sumerian Period (1)Lived Era (Birth to Death)All-1810 to -1750 (1)-518 to -465 (1)-550 to -486 (1)-600 to -530 (1)-620 to -522 (1)-642 to -562 (1)-685 to -631 (1)-745 to -681 (1)1028 to 1105 (1)1258 to 1324 (1)1326 to 1389 (1)1360 to 1403 (1)1432 to 1481 (1)1447 to 1512 (1)1549 to 1603 (1)1571 to 1629 (1)1590 to 1617 (1)1642 to 1691 (1)1698 to 1747 (1)1725 to 1789 (1)1823 to 1861 (1)1830 to 1876 (1)1842 to 1918 (1)240 to 274 (1)763 to 809 (1)796 to 842 (1)BirthplaceAllAnshan, Persis (present-day Fars province, Iran) (1)Baghdad, Abbasid Caliphate (1)Constantinople, Ottoman Empire (2)Dastgerd, Khorasan, Safavid Iran (1)Demotika (Didymoteicho), Ottoman Empire (1)Edirne, then the Ottoman capital (1)Harran (1)Herat, Safavid Iran (1)Manisa Palace, Manisa, Ottoman Empire (1)Not recorded by any surviving source (1)Ottoman Beylik (1)Söğüt (1)Topkapi Palace, Constantinople (1)Topkapi Palace, Constantinople, Ottoman Empire (2)RuledAllNeo-Babylonian Empire (1)The Abbasid Caliphate (1)The Achaemenid Empire (3)The Old Babylonian Empire (1)The Ottoman Empire (5)GenderAllFemale (1)Male (54)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 55Abdul Hamid IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAbdul Hamid IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAbdulazizMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAbdulmejid IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAhmad al-MansurMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAhmed IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAhmed IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAhmed IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAl-Mu'tasimMonarchs and Rulers1 linkAshurbanipalMonarchs and Rulers2 linksBayezid IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkBayezid IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkCambyses IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkCyrus the GreatMonarchs and Rulers3 linksDarius the GreatMonarchs and Rulers2 linksGilgameshMonarchs and Rulers1 linkHammurabiMonarchs and Rulers3 linksHarun al-RashidMonarchs and Rulers2 linksIbrahim of the Ottoman EmpireMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMahmud IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMahmud IIMonarchs and Rulers2 linksMehmed IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMehmed IIMonarchs and Rulers4 linksMehmed IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMehmed IVMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMehmed VMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMehmed VIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMuharish ibn al-MujalliMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMurad IMonarchs and Rulers3 linksMurad IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMurad IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMurad IVMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMurad VMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMustafa IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMustafa IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMustafa IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkMustafa IVMonarchs and Rulers1 linkNabonidusMonarchs and Rulers2 linksNader ShahMonarchs and Rulers1 linkNebuchadnezzar IIMonarchs and Rulers2 linksOrhanMonarchs and Rulers4 linksOsman IMonarchs and Rulers2 linksOsman IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkOsman IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkSargon of AkkadMonarchs and Rulers2 linksSelim IMonarchs and Rulers2 linksSelim IIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkSelim IIIMonarchs and Rulers1 linkSennacheribMonarchs and Rulers2 linksShah Abbas IMonarchs and Rulers2 linksSuleiman II of the Ottoman EmpireMonarchs and Rulers1 linkSuleiman the MagnificentMonarchs and Rulers4 linksSuppiluliuma IMonarchs and Rulers1 linkXerxes IMonarchs and Rulers3 linksZenobiaMonarchs and Rulers2 linksSources1.
