Aslak Bolt's cadastre

Aslak Bolt's cadastre is a property register compiled for the Archdiocese of Nidaros in Norway on the orders of Archbishop Aslak Bolt, completed around 1432 to 1433 with later amendments. It records more than three thousand farms across the archdiocese, organized by county, along with details of the income and dues owed to the church from each. Historians and place-name scholars treat it as one of the most important surviving sources for the economic and settlement history of late medieval Norway. The original parchment manuscript is held in the National Archives of Norway; it was first published by the historian Peter Andreas Munch in 1852, with a bilingual edition presenting the original text alongside a modern Norwegian translation appearing in 1997.
