The Treaty of Gulistan, signed in October 1813, ended the first Russo-Persian War of 1804 to 1813 between the Russian Empire and Qajar Persia. Persia ceded most of the territories of the Caucasus, including Georgia, Dagestan and much of what is now Azerbaijan, to Russian control. The settlement marked the definitive establishment of Russian power in the South Caucasus region and set the stage for the further Persian territorial losses confirmed at Turkmenchay fifteen years later.
