Ahmed I was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 to 1617. His reign marked the first breach of the Ottoman tradition of royal fratricide, after which Ottoman rulers stopped systematically executing their brothers on accession, and he is also known for building the Blue Mosque, one of the most famous mosques in Turkey.
