Also Known As Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi
Philosophers and Scholars

Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi (c. 780-c. 850 CE) was a Persian mathematician, astronomer and geographer who worked at the House of Wisdom in Baghdad under the Abbasid caliphate. His treatise on solving linear and quadratic equations, known in Arabic as al-jabr, gave rise to the term algebra, and his systematic methods for calculation are the origin of the term algorithm, derived from a Latinized form of his name. He also produced influential works on Hindu-Arabic numerals, astronomy and geography, helping transmit and develop mathematical knowledge that later reached medieval Europe through Latin translation.
