Pope Lucius I

Religious and Spiritual Leaders

Pope Lucius I was the bishop of Rome from 25 June 253 until his death on 5 March 254. He was banished soon after his consecration but gained permission to return, and he was later mistakenly classified as a martyr of the persecution under the emperor Valerian, which did not actually begin until after his death.
