Ibrahim, nicknamed Ibrahim the Mad, was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1640 to 1648, born in Constantinople as the last son of Sultan Ahmed I and Kosem Sultan. He was given his nickname for his mental condition and behavior, though historian Scott Rank notes his opponents spread rumors of insanity, and some historians judge him more incompetent than mad.
