Mehmed I, also known as Mehmed Celebi or the Restorer, was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1413 to 1421, a son of Sultan Bayezid I and his concubine Devlet Hatun. He fought his brothers for control of the Ottoman realm during the Ottoman Interregnum of 1402 to 1413, reuniting the state by 1413 by bringing first Anatolia and then the European territory of Rumelia under his control. He reestablished central authority in Anatolia and expanded the Ottoman presence in Europe with the 1419 conquest of Dobruja, though Venice destroyed his fleet off Gallipoli in 1416.
