Murad IV

Murad IV was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1623 to 1640, known both for restoring the authority of the state and for the brutality of his methods. Born in Constantinople to Sultan Ahmed I and Kosem Sultan, he was brought to power by a palace conspiracy at age eleven, succeeding his uncle Mustafa I, and his mother Kosem Sultan ruled as regent until he assumed absolute power in 1632. His reign is most notable for the Ottoman-Safavid War, whose outcome partitioned the Caucasus between the two empires for roughly two centuries and roughly established the modern Turkey-Iran-Iraq borders.
