Murad V was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 30 May to 31 August 1876, a son of Abdulmejid I who supported converting the government to a constitutional monarchy. He helped overthrow his uncle Abdulaziz after Abdulaziz tried to name his own son heir to the throne, but Murad's own frail physical and mental health made his reign unstable, and he was deposed after only ninety three days in favor of his half brother Abdul Hamid II.
