Hatshepsut

Hatshepsut (c. 1507-1458 BCE) was a pharaoh of Egypt's 18th Dynasty, one of the few women to rule Egypt in her own right and, by most accounts, the most successful of them. Originally regent for her young stepson Thutmose III, she assumed the full titles and regalia of a pharaoh and ruled for roughly two decades, presiding over extensive building projects, including her mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari, and organizing a celebrated trading expedition to the land of Punt. Later Egyptian rulers attempted to erase her monuments and remove her from official king lists, and her reign was only fully reconstructed by modern Egyptology.
