Guy III of Spoleto was King of Italy from 889 and Emperor from 891 until his death in 894. Originally Margrave of Camerino from 880 and Duke of Spoleto and Camerino from 883, he attempted unsuccessfully to claim the West Frankish throne after Emperor Charles the Fat's 887 deposition, then turned to Italy, where his chief rival was King Berengar I; crowned King of Italy at Pavia in 889 and Emperor at Rome in 891, both by Pope Stephen V, he secured the imperial title for his son and co-ruler Lambert in 892, who succeeded him on his death in 894.
