Category
Institutions rather than states or individuals: chartered trading companies, chivalric and religious orders, banking houses, international bodies, industrial corporations and a state's own national institutions, grouped by institutional type because an organization's founding purpose typically outlives any one era or ruler. This category excludes the polity that chartered an organization and the individual figures who led it, both recorded as relationships rather than as this category's own grouping, and it excludes an organization's present-day, ongoing operations, which sit outside this atlas's own historical scope.
