Treaty of Chaumont

Peace Treaties and Territorial Settlements

The Treaty of Chaumont, signed in March 1814 by Austria, Britain, Prussia and Russia, bound the four allied powers to continue fighting together until Napoleon's defeat and to maintain their alliance for a period afterward to preserve the settlement they intended to impose. It was a foundational agreement behind the Quadruple Alliance and helped establish the cooperative great-power diplomacy that shaped the Congress of Vienna and the following Concert of Europe. Historians have often cited it as an early model of coalition warfare bound by a formal treaty commitment.
