The Kingdom of Dahomey was a West African kingdom located within the present-day Republic of Benin that existed from approximately 1600 until 1904. Its ninth king, Glele, ruled from 1858 until 1889 and was succeeded by his son Behanzin, its eleventh king, who ruled from 1889 to 1894.
