The Kingdom of Waalo was a Wolof state on the lower Senegal River in West Africa, holding territory in what is now northern Senegal and southern Mauritania, including parts of the river valley itself and land extending north and south of it toward the Atlantic coast. It bordered Moorish emirates to the north, the Kingdom of Cayor to the south, and the Jolof Empire to the east. Waalo was one of the Wolof kingdoms that emerged as the unified rule of the Jolof Empire broke apart into separate successor states.
