The Constitution of the Empire of Japan, known informally as the Meiji Constitution, was the constitution of the Empire of Japan proclaimed on 11 February 1889 and in force from 29 November 1890 until 2 May 1947. Enacted after the Meiji Restoration of 1868, it established a form of mixed constitutional and absolute monarchy modeled primarily on German constitutional practice and partly on British practice.
