Pope Callixtus I, also called Callistus I, was the bishop of Rome from around 218 until his death around 222 or 223, during the reigns of the Roman emperors Elagabalus and Alexander Severus. After following Zephyrinus as bishop of Rome in 217, he began admitting converts from sects or schisms into the Church. He was killed for being Christian and is venerated as a saint and martyr by the Catholic Church.
