Pope Liberius was the bishop of Rome from 17 May 352 until his death on 24 September 366, consecrated as the successor to Julius I according to the Catalogus Liberianus. He is the earliest pontiff not venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, one of only two popes, along with Anastasius II, omitted from Catholic sainthood in the first five hundred years of church history.
