Henry V was King of Germany from 1099 to 1125 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1111 to 1125, the fourth and last ruler of the Salian dynasty. Made co-ruler by his father Henry IV in 1098, he allied with his father's opponents during the Investiture Controversy and forced Henry IV to abdicate in 1105. He ruled in compliance with the imperial princes until 1111, when he captured Pope Paschal II and forced an imperial coronation, after which he reverted to more autocratic Salian rule. Renewed pressure from the imperial princes forced him to compromise with the papacy, and in 1122 he and Pope Callixtus II ended the Investiture Controversy with the Concordat of Worms.
