The Levant Company was an English chartered trading company formed by the 1592 merger of the earlier Venice Company and Turkey Company, with its initial charter approved by Elizabeth I on 11 September 1592, established to regulate and monopolise English trade with the Ottoman Empire and the wider Levant. It funded England's early diplomatic representation in Constantinople and imported goods including silk, currants and raw cotton in exchange for English cloth, before Parliament dissolved it under the Dissolution of Levant Company Act 1825.
